Welcome to the website of the LEAD Foundation for international ethnoscience research and education.
LEAD is a multidisciplinary Research & Training Centre, in The Netherlands with a mission to develop and strengthen the multidisciplinairy field of Applied Ethnoscience. We do so within the context of development in various sectors of the society through international cooperation in education, training and research with students, scientists and counterpart institutions.
The Leiden Ethnosystems and Development Programme (LEAD), initiated since1987 several international Projects and Programmes promoting the role Indigenous Knowledge Systems in policy-based Research & Education, as well as in International Exhibitions all over the world. Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) encompass local peoples’ knowledge, belief, practices and institutions, as they have evolved over many generations in a particular region or country, largely outside universities and formal educational institutions, as part of the cultural heritage.
